There’s nothing wrong with my ribcage, really

the bones are strong and supple.

As a cage, though

it’s a total failure.

My heart is a slippery fish;

I never manage to keep it inside

for long

a year, maybe two and then

whoosh!

It’s gone in a wriggling flash.

Today it has fallen into a very cold,

very dark river,

with a strong current.

There’s only one ending to this story:

waterfall.
